What is the difference between yoga and Pilates?

People often confuse yoga with Pilates! In certain respects Pilates is similar to Yoga: both are considered mind-body exercise techniques; both emphasize deep breathing and smooth movements that encourage the mind-body connection.


The difference is that while Yoga requires moving from one static posture to the next and can often be rather ‘spiritual’, Pilates flows through a series of movements that are more dynamic, systematic and anatomically-based – it is a mind body workout but this is achieved through concentration and controlling certain muscles – there is no meditation or chanting in Pilates, promise!
